I am officially no longer a teacher! After 7 years of teaching middle school Physical Education, I have officially resigned to stay home with my 9 month old son. After having my son in April I did not return to my teaching position, I took extended leave and then decided to resign. This was not an easy decision considering this was my first full-time job and I basically grew up in this position. Yet, when I thought about leaving my baby to go and teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders how to play basketball the decision seemed easy. If you have never tried to teach basketball you would not understand this statement. Even after a day like I had today with the baby I feel I made a good decision. The day started out with a Mommy and baby that did not feel good and by noon it was time to call the Doctor- so now we are going to go outside on the coldest day of the year so far! So after talking nurse and making an appointment I have 2 hours to get everyone ready and out of the house, 1 poop explosion and nap later we are on our way! Only to come home and have another poop explosion before Daddy got home!
Before I sign off today! I wanted to take a few moments to remember my first year of teaching. The first word that come to mind is DIFFICULT. Lets just say I was in no way, shape, or form prepared to teach middle school Physical Education. If you are wondering I did graduate from an accredited Physical Education program, the bottom line is nothing prepares you for a gym full of 60 kids and very little equipment. There are a few highlights: by the end of the school year I only cried once a week, I had the opportunity to educate over 300 students, I worked in an awesome building, and little did I know I had the best partner ever (in middle school Physical Education you have to share a gym with another teacher aka my partner). There were some major difficulties this year in Sept I lost my Grandmother to Cancer, I was engaged to my college rebound boyfriend ( this engagement will end before a wedding is planned), my apartment barely survived a flood (I did not know I was living in a flood plain), and I discovered why most teachers quit teaching the PARENTS!
